The 3rd edition of Restaurant Week is currently concluding in Madrid and making its way to Barcelona. From the 13th to the 22nd of April, the best restaurants in Barcelona will be offering hungry restaurant week revelers menus for the very attractive price of 25 euro! This is a great opportunity for those who have always wanted to enjoy a pleasant evening in these restaurants but haven’t been able to for financial reasons. In addition, if you take part in Barcelona Restaurant Week, you are contributing to a good cause.
Restaurant Week started out in New York in 1992, in collaboration with New York Fashion Week to help attract more diners during the low season. Ninety restaurants participated in the first edition of the event. Ever since then, Restaurant Week has been gaining ground and even more so over the last few years, as now more than 10,000 restaurants participate on a yearly basis.
In addition, slowly but surely Restaurant Week has been spreading to all the major cities in the world and becoming one of the highlights on the gastronomical calendar of each destination for food lovers everywhere. Thus, this 2012 more than 100 cities are signed up to participate including major destinations such as London, Amsterdam, Sao Paulo, Miami and Río de Janeiro, etc. In Spain, Barcelona is participating, as well as Madrid and Seville.
Barcelona Restaurant Week 2012
Thirty four of the best haut-cuisine restaurants in the city, some of them proud owners of Michelin stars, will be participating in Barcelona Restaurant Week 2012 over the 10 days that the event will be taking place. Thus, all the participating restaurants in Barcelona will be offering special menus at more affordable prices. The price of the menus do vary in accordance with the city in question. In Barcelona, the fixed price is 25 euro per person (VAT and drinks not included), 1 euro of which will be donated to the following charity organisations; the ONCE Guide Dog Foundation (Spanish National Organisation for the Blind) and the Spanish Heart Foundation.
The following restaurants will be taking part in Barcelona Restaurant Week for the first time ever; Visual, Comiols, Murmuri, Loidi, Petit Comité, Osmosis, César Pastor, Restaurant 4 Capellans, Bravo 24 and 1898. Those other restaurants featuring this year, and which have participated in past editions of the event, include Sabor Mediterrani, Galaxó (at the Casa Fuster Hotel), Windsor, Alba París, Torre d’Alta Mar, Icho, Alba Granados, La Terraza del Claris, Quo Vadis, Cent Onze, and Els Jardinets de Gràcia, amongst others.
The aim of Barcelona Restaurant Week, organized by Sabor Del Año seal of quality, therefore aims to make more prestigious restaurants accessible to all those who would like to enjoy a luxury evening out, even if it`s just for one day. The other aim is to raise money for charities and NGOs. In fact, 15,000 euro was donated to charity last year. Quite a record!
