Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona

Housed in an impressive building, the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona is unique both outside and in. An impressive example of Catalan Art Nouveau (modernisme), it is located in the historic centre of Barcelona. The Palau de la Música Catalana was commissioned by the Orfeó Catala, a symphonic choir in Barcelona, designed by the architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner, and built between 1905 and 1908.

The building is representative of the open and forward-thinking attitude of Catalonia and was declared a National Monument in 1971. Furthermore, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1997, along with the Hospital de Sant Pau. The building was extended and modernized from 1983 to 2004.

Galeries Lafayette Christmas Window Displays

The Christmas window displays in the Galeries Lafayette department store attract thousands of visitors every year. The 2012 edition, marking the 100^th anniversary of Galeries Lafayette’s iconic dome, was designed in collaboration with Louis Vuitton based on the theme, “Le Bal du Siècle” (The Ball of the Century). Pandas, flamingos, penguins and other exotic animals come to life alongside hundreds of other puppets in a wonderful mechanically synchronized ballet. Note that the 12 Galeries Lafayette Christmas window displays located on Boulevard Haussmann will remain for shoppers’ viewing pleasure up until the beginning of January 2013.
