An impressive example of Catalan Art Nouveau (modernisme), it is located in the historic centre of Barcelona. The building is representative of the open and forward-thinking attitude of Catalonia and was declared a National Monument in 1971. Furthermore, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1997, along with the Hospital de Sant Pau. The building was extended and modernized from 1983 to 2004.
